Newman Night: A Catholic College Fair

On Friday, October 9th, the Chesterton Academy of the Immaculata will be hosting a special college fair for families in the Boston and the Metro-West Area of Massachusetts. While there are many college fairs at this time of year, this event is unique in that it features schools recommended by the Cardinal Newman Society in their well-known Newman Guide.

October 9th happens to be the Feast of St. John Henry Newman, who wrote beautifully about the purpose of higher education. To celebrate this occasion, Patrick Reilly, the president and founder of the Cardinal Newman Society, will be giving the keynote address. Author, professor, and Newman expert, Patrick will speak about the state of higher education in the country today, with references to Newman’s thought on the idea of a university. Even those without children near to applying to college will find this an enlightening event. The question of higher education pertains to all as society grapples with the new realities of technology and its effect on learning and the workplace.

This event will provide a valuable service to parents and their children exploring options for college. The schools attending are all impressive institutions that offer excellent opportunities for students pursuing higher education. While each of these schools offers unique attractions, altogether they share a strong Catholic identity.

Currently eight schools will have representatives at the event. They include:

Ave Maria University
Benedictine College
Catholic University of America
Christendom College
Holy Apostles College & Seminary
Thomas Aquinas College
Thomas More College of Liberal Arts
University of Dallas

For schools who cannot send someone in person, information about them will also be available. Additionally, a number of recent alumni from these schools will be present to speak more informally about their experiences at college.

Lastly, Chesterton Academy’s college counselor, Mary Foley, will be present to answer questions that parents and their children have about the process of applying to college. 

The event will take place from 7 to 9 pm in the Gymnasium of St. Stephen’s Parish in Framingham (36 Clinton St.). Those who would like to attend this event should reserve a spot through this link.
